Hair braiding makes men appear irresponsible –Abuja residents

Image
By Editor October 11 2022 Some Abuja residents have said hair braiding makes men look irresponsible, describing the practice as alien to the Nigerian culture. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that hair braiding or weaving is popular among African women as they use it to maintain their natural hair textures. Some Nigerian men have lately also adopted it as a fashion statement, especially footballers and those in the entertainment business as a way of creating a unique identity for themselves in society. But a cross-section of Abuja residents interviewed by NAN  in Abuja said hair braiding should be restricted to women alone, as it is their exclusive reserve. Mr Vincent Chukwuebuka, a resident of Wuse 2, said that “society sees men who engage in hair braiding as people who deviate from societal norms and values and as such have nothing to offer to the society. “ People tend to see them as being irresponsible in society because they tend to look rough and unk...

A cross-section of those interviewed by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said that although the practice was widespread, especially in the South West, it amounted to an abuse of children. Mrs Khadijah Aminu, a parent in Dei-Dei, said forceful feeding of children is abuse because it always results in maltreatment or punishing of the child when it refuses to eat. Aminu said the act of feeding a child by withholding its nose is abuse in that it could lead to breathe loss and possible death. “Forcefully feeding a child will not only discomfort to the child because it can lead to indigestion and malnutrition,” she said. Mr Femi Afolabi, a father of two in Suleja, corroborated the claim, saying, however, that finding what a child likes to...
