1,079 victims of human trafficking, GBV seek justice through sexual referral centre--- says NCD

Nov 30, 2022 By Editor The New Apostolic Centre for Development (NCD), a humanitarian arm of the New Apostolic Church said no fewer than 1,079 persons had reported cases of human trafficking and gender based violence to the Edo State Sexual Assault Referral Centre, otherwise known as Vivian Centre to seek for justice. Mr Victor Oriakhi, board member of the Benin City based non-governmental organisation, said the figures was occasioned by the  body's  implementation's of  the Agents for Transformation programme project funded by the European Union in the state. Oriakhi made the disclosure in Benin City while briefing the press at the end of a town hall meeting and training of participants on the awareness and danger of trafficking in persons and improved response to sexual and gender based violence in the state. Edo: Police rescue 14 kidnapped victims travelling to wedding ceremony in Ilorin

Nov 25, 2022 Edo State Police Command  said it has rescued 14 persons who were kidnapped in Akoko-Edo local government area while travelling for a wedding ceremony to Ilorin state. The police image maker, SP Chidi Nwabuzor made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin on Friday. Nwabuzor said the victims were among persons kidnapped in a two luxury buses on their way from Benue state to a wedding ceremony in Ilorin. He said the persons were kidnapped on Thursday, November 24, 2022 at 4pm along Lagos–Abuja Road, by Ikeran Oke, Ibillo, in Akoko - Edo Local Government Area of Edo State. He said the police command was aware of the incident about 5:15pm on Thursday through the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Ibillo Division. 3000 homes to benefit from potable water before 2023 polls in Delta

By Editor Nov 19, 2022 The completion of the ongoing  Effurun-Warri water scheme will provide potable water to 3000 homes in Delta State, the state commissioner for Water Resources, Chief Samuel Mariere has said. Mariere said the water scheme will be completed before the end of February in the 2023 fiscal year. The commissioner disclosed this at the ministry's 2023 budget defence meeting with the State House of Assembly Committee on Water Resources in Asaba. He noted that the project which is at the verge of completion was a major target for the ministry and the state government. While disclosing that the 2022 budget performance of the ministry was 34.5 percent, he added that N1.9 billion was approved for the ministry as Capital Expenditures. The Commissioner for Works in-charge of Urban and Highways, Mr Noel Omodion made the disclosure on Tuesday in Asaba at the presentation of the scorecard of his ministry in the outgoing 2022 fiscal year. Omodon said the engineering projects include highways, urban and rural roads, drainage structures, bridges, rehabilitation and maintenance. He disclosed that the Ministry of Works recorded 58 percent budget performance as at last October 2022, in the 2022 fiscal year. Debtors may soon be unable to get FG contracts without AMCON clearance

By Editor Nov 10, 2022 The Federal Government may soon move to ensure that recalcitrant debtors are barred from participating in government projects and contracts without prior clearance by the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). This was disclosed in a press statement signed by Laolu Akande, the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media & Publicity. The statement explained that the policy move was recommended by an inter-agency committee established by the government to recover debts owed to AMCON. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who received the committee’s interim report on behalf of the government, assured that the recommendation would be acted upon accordingly. He also agreed that AMCON debtors engaging in business with government agencies is a due diligence lapse that needs to be checkmated. Oil-producing states owe over N2.15 trillion in domestic debt as of June 2022

This is according to the Nigerian foreign and domestic debt data published by the National Bureau of Statistics.  Oil-producing states in Nigeria are Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers, Edo, Ondo, Imo, Abia, Lagos, and Anambra.  None of the oil producing states under review recorded external debt stock. Nairametrics reported that these states earn a special 13% derivation from proceeds of oil revenues from the federation account suggesting they earn more than most other states. Nairametrics reported that the expenditures represents a 44.31% increment from N182.355 billion recorded during the comparable period of 2021.  The figure also represents 42% of the total cost of sales of N626.660 billion recorded by the cement companies during the period under review.  Some of these cost pressures were due to the depreciation of the naira and macroeconomic inflationary pressure, especially in the domestic market where average inflation heightened.   Regardless of the high cost of sales which swallowed much of the companies’ earnings and stood at N626.660 billion, they both managed to generate a combined profit after tax of N287.115 billion, according to data tracked by Nairametrics.
