Edo NULGE to honour past, present leaders at its 2022 week

Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has rolled out plans to celebrate and honour past and present leaders that served the union meritoriously  in the state.

A statement by the state president and secretary of the union, Comrade Lazarus Adorolor and Olumuyiwa Cole, respectively, and made available to newsmen in Benin City said the past and present leaders of the union will be honoured in its 2022 week.

The union, who noted that the leaders gave the best of their lives for the betterment and struggle of the union, said the union's week celebration will commence on November 28, 2022.

He said the event which has in its theme, "Sustaining an Autonomous Local Government as a catalyst for National Development", will be delivered by the federal Commissioner, Federal Character Commission, Abuja, Prof. Osarunmwese Imuetinyan on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at Imaguero Grammer School, Benin-City by 10.00am.


Other activities lined up for the programme include sanitation and cleaning of Local Government  Secretariats and public places across Edo State commencing from Monday, 28th November.


He noted that the sanitation exercise  was aimed at creating and sustaining enabling working environment for members and other Local Government officials.

"The next day, Tuesday, November 29, 2022 is designated as  "VETERAN DAY". It will allow us to celebrate all our Past, and Present Union Leaders who have served and are still serving the union in various capacities. These leaders have given our struggle the best of their lives and as such demands been celebrated.

"On the 1st of December, 2023, the Finals of the Football competitions among the various local government councils will hold at the School of Health Technology, Benin City. 

"The week will climax with a Local Government day on Friday, 2nd of December, 2022. The event which will feature among other things, like Cultural Parade, Raffle Draw, Presentation of Prizes and Awards, Book Launch at the indoor Sports Hall, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.

"It will be chaired by a former Governor of Edo state, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, while Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki will be the special Guest of Honor.

"Gala Nite and Dinner will round off the weeklong event. The Gala Nite which will avail NULGE the opportunity to give award of recognition to people and institutions for their various contributions to the society.

" The Gala Nite and dinner will be chaired by  the National Chairman, NULGE, Comrade Akeem Olatunji Ambali, while Edo State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Philip Shaibu will be the Special Guest of Honor. The event will hold at SIO Event Centre, Benin city",he said.
