Physically Challenged Women lament lack of male suitors for marriage

The women's wing made the remarks at a press conference in Benin City to mark the 2022 International Women's Day with the theme, "Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow", sponsored by JONAPWD, Edo State Chapter. NYSC wants FG to provide necessary assistance, fund for takeoff of proposed Trust Fund

By: Idris Umar Momoh, Benin Mar 25, 2022 The Director- General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major-General Shaibu Ibrahim has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to provide the necessary enablement for the actualization of the proposed NYSC Trust Fund if passed into law. Shaibu made the call recently at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2022 Batch 'A' Stream II Corps members. He said the provision of the necessary enablement will enhance the smooth operation and actualization of the proposed Trust Fund, especially by addressing the challenge of infrastructure. He said it will also boost its skills and entrepreneurship development programme aimed at empowering corps members for self-employment  and wealth creation. BEDC MD, Husband dragged to Court over alleged $91.4m debt

By: Idris Umar Momoh Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC)Plc, Mrs Funke Iyabo Sobodu, the chairman of the company who is also her husband, Victor Gbolade Sobodu, the electricity company and Vigeo Power Limited have been dragged to a Federal High Court, Lagos for alleged $91.4 million debt. The BEDC owners and others were dragged to the court by Stanbic-IBTC, Fidelity Bank Plc, Keystone Bank Limited, ALM Consulting Limited and Stanbic-IBTC Trustees Limited. The three banks and two firms  approached the court for an order and injunction towards recovering of the alleged $91.4 million debt from Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) Plc and its chairman Victor Osibodu and the company's managing director, Funke. In the suit marked: FHC/L/CS/ 239/2022 , the counter-claimants/applicants also listed Vigeo Holdings Limited (In receivership), VHL International Limited, Global Utilities Management Company Limite

INEC Worry Over low participation of Edo Residents in ongoing voters registration

By: Idris Umar Momoh The Edo State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday expressed worry over the low turnout of residents participation in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration in the state. Dr Johnson Alalibo Senikiem, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Edo State made the remarks at a recent stakeholders' meeting on the Continuous Voter Registration rotation organised by the commission in Benin City. Alalibo, however, said a total number of 103,101 new voters have registered  since the commencement of  the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) in 2021. The resident electoral commissioner, urged actors to mobilise their people to turn out en-masse and participate in the ongoing registration in the state. He added that new voters had completed their registration out of the 267,460 that registered online. Blame Fuel Price Hike On Major Marketers --Edo IPMAN Chairman

By: Idris Umar Momoh, Benin Abdul Egele, the Edo State chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association Nigeria (IPMAN), Benin depot, on Thursday  said there is no way members of the association can sell the Premium Motors Spirit (PMS) popularly known as fuel at the official government approved price of N165 per litre. Egele who spoke in Benin City said the current hike in the pump price of fuel in the country was occasioned by the exorbitant price  that the  independent marketers buy from private tank owners. The IPMAN chairman, who absolved independent marketers of blame in the current lingering nationwide scarcity of petroleum products, noted that motorists currently buy the products between N200 and N250 as against the government approved price of N165 a litre.
