Pandemonium in UNIBEN as man gets electrocuted

By Editor May 11, 2023   Pandemonium erupted at the premises of the Ekehuan campus of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) as a yet-to-be-identifed man was electrocuted while carrying out a repair on one of the electric poles in the axis.  DailyMonitorngr reports that in a video that went viral on Thursday morning, the man, who wore electrical safety clothing, was seen at the top end of an electrical pole close to the institution's gate, apparently trying to fix power problem in the axis.  Eyewitnesses said the man was held up on the pole and before they could turn off the transformer, he was electrocuted.  It was gathered that the man was trying to fix one of the wires that was falling when the sudden incident happened. Edo LP raises alarm over plots by some persons to invade secretariat

By Editor May 11, 2023 The  Edo State chapter of the Labour Party has raised the alarm over the alleged plan by some persons in the state to invade the party's secretariat with a view to forcefully eject the executive from office.  The state chairman of the party, Mr Kelly Ogbaloi, made the allegation at a press conference on Thursday in Benin City.  Ogbaloi also alleged that some persons masquerading around the state are planning to overrun the secretariat and hack down some members of the Executive council.  He, however, called on the law enforcement agencies to immediately take notices and act as the cases are very ominous.  He further urged the security agencies to immediately complete investigations on petitions of threat to life and impersonation of leadership of the party in the state.  The Labour Party chairman added that those found culpable after the investigations should be made to face the full wrath of the law.  According to him, Exco reviewed numerous

Iziegbe is the daughter of Mr Monday Ebalu Ikhili, a journalist with Aljazirah Nigeria media, a national daily based in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. Iziegbe was conferred with the award on Wednesday at the 2nd oath taking/induction ceremony for the 2020/2021 graduands of the university. Police rescues two kidnapped victims, 10 still missing

By Editor May 04, 2023 Edo State Police command on Thursday said two out of the 12 persons kidnapped by gunmen in Owan East local government area have been rescued. Dailymonitorngr reports that within the rescued of the two, 10 persons are still in the abductors den. The 12 persons were kidnapped on Tuesday along Afuze-Ihievbe-Auchi road between 6 pm and 7 pm. DSP Chidi Nwanbuzor, the Public Relations Officer of the command who confirmed the rescued of the two persons, however, said the command cannot ascertained the number of persons kidnapped  because there was nobody to give account of the numbers. Nwabuzor noted that operatives of the command are still combing the bush to rescue other kidnapped victims and arrest the perpetrators. He said the rescued victims are receiving treatment at the hospital. A resident from Ihievbe, who spoke with Dailymonitorngr on condition of anonymity noted, however, that two of the abducted victims escaped. The source stated that members of vigilante group have combed off the forests and bush in the locality of Warrake and other communities to rescue the victims. Gov Godwin Obaseki By Editor May 3, 2023 Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has sacked civil commissioners and over 200 aides from the state executive council.  Dailymonitorngr reports that the sacking of the aides takes immediate effect.  A statement by Crusoe Osagie Special Adviser, Media Projects to the State Governor said the sacking affected all Special Assistants (SAs) and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs).  Crusoe said the dissolution of the executive council and aides was taken during the weekly executive council meeting on Wednesday.  Dailymonitorngr also reports that the aides were appointed in 2021.  The governor, however, expressed appreciation to members of the council for their service to the government and people of the State.

May Day: Organized labour bemoan dearth of workers in Edo civil service
