Hon Joseph Ikpea, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant for the 2024 governorship elections in Edo State has assured workers in the state that their welfare will be of utmost priority and concern if the party comes back to Dennis Osadebay avenue.
Ikpea, who was a former chairman of Esan South-East local government, called on the leadership of the organized labour to continue to work with a renewed energy aimed at making the state great.
He noted that the organized labour have proven beyond any doubt that a genuine partnership with them will go a long way to grow and develop the state and deliver good governance to the people.
"My comrades, I join you today, as always, to celebrate your commitment to service of our Nation and state with assurances that with a new and fresh government in Edo state, your welfare will be of high concern to the incoming APC government.
"You have proven beyond any doubt that a genuine partnership with you will go a long to grow and develop our state and deliver good governance to our people", he said.
The governorship hopeful who stated this in a statement issued in Benin City said "I must celebrate our teeming workers in Edo state as we join others across the country to celebrate the year 2023 workers day.
He opined that the efforts and
consciousness of workers working for the state should be appreciated despite visible unfriendly government labour relationship.
He posited that the civil workforce cannot be pushed aside by anyone or any government that is desirous of genuine service aimed at growing the state.
He assured the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its Trade Union Congress (TUC) counterpart that the incoming administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu will put in place a more people-focused and friendly policy that will encourage a better working relationship between the government and the nation's workforce, which will permeate to the states, Edo inclusive.
He also assured that the incoming Bola Ahmed Tinubu- led government would create an enabling environment that will no longer make the urge to 'japa' (a Nigerian slang meaning to migrate) attractive to Nigerian irrespective of their profession.
Ikpea, however, called on the state workforce to join hands with the progressive minded elements in the state as they seek a new direction of governance that is more people focused.
