Azemhe Azena: The Man For The People

Image
Pastor (Dr) Azemhe Azena, Senior Pastor at Omega Fire Ministries Southern Region 2 By Austen Akhagbeme July 9, 2023 History is replete with men that have changed society for good from time immemorial.  But one common denominator about such historical happenstance at every circle of the history of development is the fact that such great men always emanate from and are unconditionally loved by the people themselves. This is the story of Dr Azemhe Azena, a former motorcycle rider, truck-pusher and load carrier. Dr Azemhe grew through the dangerous and life-threatening ladder of poverty and deprivation that saw him homeless at some point as a young lad growing up. This, perhaps, explains his closeness to the very wretched, the youths, the widows and all strata of men in society and their challenges up until now. His ministry to the very abandoned and ex-convicts is soul-touching. The same with confessed criminals who readily and willingly lay down their arms for rehabilitation

Image
Governor Godwin Obasiki of Edo State while formally presented with PDP membership card June, 2019 By John Mayaki  July 9, 2023 The leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo state currently rests with Governor Godwin Obaseki, who displaced Chief Dan Osi Orbih. However, since Obaseki assumed leadership, the party has been plagued by ongoing crises. The most recent blow came with the resignation of former governorship aspirant Engr. Gideon Ikhine. Prior to Ikhine, notable figures such as Senator Matthew Urhoghide, Barrister Kenneth Imansuangbon (popularly known as Rice Man), and former Commissioner for Information Mr. Adaeze Emwanta, among others, have also left the party. Obaseki’s entry into the PDP, where he was offered the party’s ticket to contest for a second term in office, marked a turning point. He swiftly took control of the party’s leadership, leading to a series of litigation and internal conflicts. Prominent figures like Chief Dan Orbih have now ado

The Passing of Agbo Areo of Pacesetters Series Fame

Image
By Uzo Maxim Uzoatu July 30, 2023 It was from a Facebook post of my dear brother Chuma Nwokolo that I learnt of the passing away of Agbo Areo, the self-effacing brain behind the Pacesetters Series conceived by Macmillan Publishers UK for young adults and teenage readers across Africa. Agbo Areo who was then an editor with Macmillan Nigeria somewhat convinced his bosses in Britain that there was a vast market for thrillers, romances and adventure stories. Macmillan UK was an educational publisher with hardly any stomach for publishing novels, but Agbo Areo pressed on with his pet idea. He was then asked to write the model book, and he wrote the 30,000-odd-word novel entitled Director! It would have been odd to start the series with only one title. The three selected authors somewhat served the Nigerian tri
