EDHA 2003: Why Ojiezele should be the next speaker

Hon. Ojezele Sunday (aka Ikpenomhen), Esan South-East Edo State House of Assembly-Elect By Innocent Okoh. One week after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced winners of the House of Assembly election keenly contested on March 18, 2023, in Edo state, expectations are high among the constituents in Esan South East. The people are pressuring on their elected representative Hon. Ojezele Sunday, aka Ikpenomhen, of the People's Democratic Party (PDP)  to commence preparation for the seat of the speaker of the State House of Assembly, because the incumbent speaker of the house, Hon. Marcus Onobun has been elected to represent Esan West/ Esan Central/ Igueben Federal Constituency in the National Assembly. UNIBEN SUG President wins Libel Case Against Executive Council Members

UNIBEN main gate By Editor March 27, 2023 The President of the Students Union Government (SUG) of the University of Benin, Mr Foster Osazee Amadin has won a case of libel against four members of the union's executive. Dailymonitorngr reports that the Supreme Court of the Student Union Government of the University gave the judgment in favour of the SUG president in December, 2022. The copy of the judgment made available to newsmen in Benin City listed the defendants, who are also executive members of the union in the case to include Comrade Oredia Destiny, Secretary General, Comrade Ekene Aninze, Attorney- General, Comrade Omoregie Sylvester, Assistant Secretary General and Comrade Benson Osademe  Nwabere, Director of Sports. The defendants who were elected along with the claimant as members of the executive council of the union in 2020/2021 were alleged to have written and made a defamatory publication against the claimant on March 23, 2022 in the Sahara Reporte

By Editor March 26, 2023 A nongovernmental organization under the aegis of Uromi Justice Development Peace and Caritas Initiatives (UROMI JDPCI) has called for the legislative review of the Edo State  Trafficking in Persons Prohibition Law 2018.  The Executive Director of the group, Reverend Father Fidelis Arhedo made the call at a Social Dialogue Forum with Journalists in Benin City.  Arhedo said the social dialogue forum was on Localizing Trafficking in Person Response in Edo State by localizing TIP response (LOTIP-R) cluster anchored by Uromi JDPCI.  He added that the project is  funded by the States Agency for International Development (USAID) under its Strengthening Civil Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE) Project and implemented in Nigeria by Palladium.  The Reverend Father said the law should be reviewed to make provision for the activation o

Ihonvbere, who was reelected for a second term, gave the condemnation via a statement issued made available to newsmen in Benin by his Senior Aide on Media and Public Affairs, Joshua Iraoya. The federal lawmaker made specific reference to Owan West Local Government, where he alleged that violence engulfed Sobe community. Assembly election : Court orders INEC to accept Idahosa Peter as LP Candidate for Oredo East constituency

By Editor March 15, 2023 Justice D.U Okorowo of the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to accept Engineer Idahosa Peter as the authentic candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for Oredo East constituency in the Saturday House of Assembly elections in Edo State. The court order was sequel to an ex-exparte motion filed by Isa Uthman, counsel to the applicant. The case with the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/302/2023 was dated and filed on 8th March, 2023. The court in its interim order, said the applicant should be accepted as the party candidate for the election, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. Okorowo, however, declined to  restrain  INEC from conducting election into the constituency, unless the name of the applicant is accepted and included in the list of candidates for the election.
