2023 poll: INEC Clears 100 candidates for 3 senatorial, 9 representatives' seats in Edo

The Independent National Electoral Commission has cleared 100 candidates to contest for the three senatorial and nine  House of Representatives seats in Edo state for the 2023 general elections.

DailyMonitorngr reports that the electoral commission on Tuesday released the final list of candidates cleared for the national legislative elections.

The DailyMonitorngr also reports that there are three senatorial seats and nine federal constituencies in the state.

The list contained 30 candidates vying for senatorial seats and 70 for Federal House of Representatives seats across the different parties. 

The breakdown of the parties  indicated that the All Progressives Congress (APC), the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Action Alliance (AA), Action Democratic Party (ADP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) have candidates for the three senatorial seats.

It also showed that Accord (A) has candidate for Edo central only, Boot Party (BP) only for Edo north and National Rescue Movement (NRM) for Edo South.

For the federal house of representatives, APC, PDP, NNPP and  ADC have candidates in all the seats, SDP in Seven seats, LP in eight, ADP in four, AA in seven, AAC one, YPP two and ZLP four seats respectively.

The presidential, national assembly, governorship and state assembly elections are slated for 2023.

Youths arrest, handover suspected female trafficker to Police after escaping from custody in Edo

The suspected female kidnapper/ trafficker in the middle of the victims  By Editor Aug 24, 2025 Youths at the PZ area on the Benin-Sapele road, Benin City, have reportedly rearrested a female suspected trafficker simply identified as Mrs Anita, who allegedly escaped from the South-Ibie Divisional Police headquarters, in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. Dailymonitorngr gathered that the youths in the community located in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area, however, handed over the suspect to the Edo State Police Command. 8 persons burnt to death in a tanker explosion in Edo community

By Editor March 10, 2025 Eight passengers have been burnt to death in a tanker explosion in the Agbede community in Etsako West Local Government Area of the State. DailyMonitorngr reports that the accident happened on Sunday in the community by channel 5, along the Auchi- Benin expressway. Cyril Mathew, the Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident to newsmen on Monday in Benin City. Mathew said the accident involved four vehicles with two of them carrying diesel and other petroleum products. Mathew said the information available to him, revealed that one of the tankers descending the Ewu hill on the Benin-Auchi road had a failed brake and in the process rammed into other vehicles which ignited fire.
