The Edo State Government said it has sacked the authorities of Imose Cleaning and Facility Management Company over alleged dereliction of duties.
Engineer Jonathan Lawani, Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability said the waste manager before its sacking was in charge of Oregbeni Market, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state.
Lawani ,who made the disclosure while speaking with newsmen in Benin City said the removal of the
cleaning and facility management company was occasioned by series of complaints from residents and traders in the market.
He explained that the ministry, in collaboration with the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA) and the Head of Environmental Health Department of the Local Government, had made several efforts to ensure the market and its environs are always kept clean.
"There had been a series of complaints from traders and residents in the market and its environs which is within the area of responsibility of the company. Imose does not evacuate waste on time, even after collecting fees.
"The state government will not spare anyone who is thwarting the effort of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration in ensuring the state is clean.
"The sack of the waste manager will serve as a deterrent to those who renege on their duties", he said.
He, however, appealed to residents in the state to imbibe the culture of maintaining a clean environment by engaging the services of waste managers for proper evacuation and disposal of wastes.
