Father, Son remanded in prison custody for alleged N5.6bn Fraud in Lagos

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has re-arraigned one Emmanuel Adewunmi Jayeoba alongside his son, Adewale Daniel Jayeoba, before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.

The twitter handle of the anti-graft agency said the defendants were re-arraigned on a 14-count amended information bordering on money laundering to the tune of N5, 697, 029, 685billion.


The accused were, however, remanded in Prison custody by 
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.


The charge sheet reads:“ That you, Adewale Daniel Jayeoba and Emmanuel Adewunmi Jayeoba, between 2019 and 2020, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, conspired amongst yourselves to use the aggregate sum of N5.697,029,685billion which sum you reasonably ought to have known forms part of your unlawful activity to wit.

It alleged that the accused  carried on banking business without valid license and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18 (a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012 and punishable under Section 15(3) of the same Act.

They pleaded “not guilty “to the offence.

In view of their pleas, the prosecution counsel, Chinenye Okezie, asked the court for a trial date and also prayed that the defendants be remanded in prison custody.

In response, counsel to the defendants, I.A. Raji, informed the court that the defendants had previously been granted bail by Justice Nicholas Oweibo.

He, however, told the court that the defendants had not been able to perfect the bail conditions.

The defence counsel, therefore, prayed the court for a short date for the hearing of the bail variation.

Justice Aneke adjourned the matter to October 17, 2022 and  December 6, 2022 for hearing of the bail application and trial respectively.

The Judge also ordered the defendants to be remanded in prison custody.

8 persons burnt to death in a tanker explosion in Edo community

By Editor March 10, 2025 Eight passengers have been burnt to death in a tanker explosion in the Agbede community in Etsako West Local Government Area of the State. DailyMonitorngr reports that the accident happened on Sunday in the community by channel 5, along the Auchi- Benin expressway. Cyril Mathew, the Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident to newsmen on Monday in Benin City. Mathew said the accident involved four vehicles with two of them carrying diesel and other petroleum products. Mathew said the information available to him, revealed that one of the tankers descending the Ewu hill on the Benin-Auchi road had a failed brake and in the process rammed into other vehicles which ignited fire. Edo Govt gives nod to deputy speaker to construct perimeter fence in two schools

By Editor May 19, 2024   The Edo State Government has given approval to the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Maria Omozele Oligbi-Edeko to construct  perimeter fence in Ebhoiyi Demonstration Primary  and Idumu-Egelean Primary Schools in Esan North East Local Government Area. Dailymonitorngr reports that the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) gave the nod to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, representing Esan North East constituency II  to construct perimeter fences in the two schools.
