Adun emerges chairman Ekenwan zone of saw millers association

The Ekenwan zone of the Edo State Sawmillers Association on Friday elected Ambassador Julius Iredia Adun as its chairman.

Adun polled a total of 19 votes to defeat his only rival Mr Asemota Godspower who scored nine votes.

Dailymonitorngr reports that 28 electorate voted at the elections.

In his acceptance speech, Adun commended the electorate and the electoral committee for a credible, free and fair elections that was  devoid of acrimonies .

He promised to carry every members of the union along in the scheme of things as well as to partner with the state leadership to join the Edo State government to  fight illegal logging activities in the state.

According to him, I will do everything possible to work with the State President of Sawmiller  to ensure that illegal logging activities are tackle in the trade.

While lamenting incessant double taxation imposed on members by those in authority,  he, however, promised to liaise with the relevant agencies to ensure that the challenges are addressed.

"Bad roads, multiple taxations and illegal collections have been our major challenges.  Ekenwan zone of the association is very critical area in the industry, that is why I offered myself to serve as the capacity of a chairman so as  to sure that those challenges confronting members are put to an end", he said.

Earlier, the electoral committee chairman, Comrade Sunday Ogbomo commended the electorate for conducting themselves peacefully before, during and after the election.

Ogbomo said 28 voters accredited and participated at the elections and the elected chairman scored 19 votes out of the 28 while his opponent scored nine votes

He said there are eight zones across the 18 local government area of the state.
