Edo govt, Afenmai World Congress boost security with N48million.

Edo State Government and Afemai World Congress has  donated the sum of N48 million to boost security architecture in Afemailand.

Afenmailand is made up of five local governments which are Akoko-Edo, Etsako Central, Etsako East, Etsako West, Owan East and Owan West respectively.

Chris Nehikhare, the state Commissioner of information who made the disclosure in Benin City at a press briefing said the Afenmai World Congress had donated the sum of N12 million to support the state government architecture.

Nehikhare said in appreciation of the support from the group, the government decided to matched the donation with N36 million to make up N48 million.

He said the money will be used to purchase vehicles, uniforms and other security gadgets for the Afemai vigilante group.





According to him, just today, the Afemai World Congress presented a Zenith bank cheque of N12 million to the state government to support government in the area of security.

"The N12 million was presented to support the setting up of vigilante system that is in operation especially in Afemai clan.

"This vigilante system has helped to increase security consciousness, reduced the rate of kidnapping and other crimes in the state

"In appreciation, the state government has marched the donation the by donating additional N36 million which would be given to the Afemai vigilante group,"he said.

Meanwhile, the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has ordered Police investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the discovery of 10 dead bodies  in the Akoko-Edo local government area of the state.

Recall that ten unidentified corpses were reportedly discovered between Ibillo–Lampese along the Lagos–Abuja Road in Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

Some of the bodies were said to have been first discovered by farmers on their way to the farm around 7:30 am Tuesday and then alerted members of the vigilante group who combed the area and only to discover more bodies numbering 10.

Briefing journalists in Benin City on  Wednesday, Chris Nehikhare, the state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation,said the governor has ordered that an autopsy be carried out to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the death of the 10 persons.

Nekhihare said the order was part of the outcome of the state weekly Executive Council meeting.

"The state is pained with the discovery of 10 bodies of young men between the ages of 23 - 24 years killed without any mark of identity and sign of trauma.

"The state government has ordered for an autopsy to be carried out to find out the cause of their death", he added.
