Following the alleged legal loopholes noticed in the management of cooperatives, Edo State Government has planned a six-day human capital building for cooperators in the state.

The training which is slated to commence as from November 8, 2022 will end in November 22, 2022 in the three senatorial districts of the state.

DailyMonitorngr gathered that the legal loopholes often resulted in many of the cooperators  becoming insolvent.

The training programme which is an initiative of the Edo Cooperatives Federation is to be co-sponsored by GIZ, the German development aid agency.

The training with the theme: "Understanding Your Law and Cooperatives in the 21st Century  will commence from Edo South between November 8th and 9th, for  Edo Central will be November 15th and 16 while Edo North turn is slated for November 20 and November 22 respectively.

It was envisaged that the training programme will expose the cooperative societies and their members to the changing trends in the laws governing the operations of the cooperative movement.

A source who revealed the training explained that it geared towards   focusing on  laws governing the operations of  cooperatives societies in the state.

Recall that the Edo State Commissioner for Business, Trade, and Cooperatives, Hon Afie Braimoh had in recent months devoted  the ministry's  significant resources and efforts on designing a series of incentives and programmes to empower the local MSME's in the state.

The commissioner opined that development was to bring MSMEs up to be at par with their counterparts in the country.

Some of the training programmes organized by the ministry to boost the MSMEs' capacity in the state include training on modern management techniques, sponsorships to both local and foreign trade exhibitions and trade fairs.

Others are access to credit,  workshops on branding, packaging, and a host of other activities, all directed towards improving their proficiency and efficiency.

However, some stakeholders in the MSMEs sub sector in the state described the timing of the training as laudable as it would help to save the cooperatives from collapse.

They also opined that the cooperative societies are comparable to the banks by being the last hope of the downtrodden since the society as a whole cannot afford their extinction.
