Gunmen kidnap Ex- Edo lawmaker, other three days after abduction of 32 train passengers

Barely three days after the kidnapped of 32 passengers at Igueben train station in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo state, former lawmaker, Hon Festus Edughele and a staff of the State Accountant-General office were at the early hours of Monday kidnapped by gunmen in the state.

Dailymonitorngr gathered that the duo were kidnapped at Ugoneki community, in Uhunmwonde local government area, on their way to Benin City.

The former lawmaker represented Esan South East constituency at the State House of Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress between 2015 and 2019.

It was gathered that the former lawmaker was supposed to board train from the Igueben station to Abuja on Saturday but due to the ill-fated incident, he decided to board a flight from Benin airport to Abuja.

A source close to the kidnapped victims said, they were travelling in two vehicles but the gunmen abducted the vehicle that conveyed the duo.

The source said the incident have been reported to the police in the state.

A former Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Festus Ebea, also  confirmed the incident.

Ebea said his former colleague intended to board the now suspended train service from Ubiaja to Abuja.

“He was kidnapped this morning at Ugoneki on his way from Ubiaja to Benin. He had intended to take the train for Ubiaja but he could not do so since the train services had been suspended.

“The family is aware of his kidnap, the police division in that area has been informed and we hope action will be taken to rescue him,” he said.
