Over 92million Nigerians not connected to electricity --- Solar Energy Expert

Timmy Shi, the general manager of Beebeejump Solar International Limited at the weekend said over 92 million persons  are not connected to electricity in the country.


Timmy Shi, made the remarks during the flag-off of the electrification of unserved and underserved communities in Delta state.


Dailymonitorngr reports that the project which is being executed in  collaboration with the Delta State Government was under the Federal Government's five million solar connection initiative. 

Shi, who is also the country Sale Director of the Chinese company with the motto: “Easy Life with Electricity”, expressed concern over electricity challenges facing Nigerians. 

She said that Beebeejump was set up to address the energy problems in Nigeria, by providing an alternative to electricity power supply. 

While explaining the importance of solar energy and its usage, she noted that Solar is less expensive and hence it is the best alternative solution to electricity. 

She opined that the initiative was aimed at touching the lives of the people of the state especially those who are in the rural areas. 

The Beebeejump Solar International general manager, who  lamented that inadequate power supply has been a major challenge facing the country, added that the introduction of the Beebeejump Solar would help to address the challenge. 

She also said that solar power has been identified as the cheapest when it comes to electricity. 

She added that the partnership would  help to ensure that the people of the state enjoy good power supply. 

In his remarks, the Delta State Commissioner for Energy, Chief Fred Obe said that the solar based alternate electrification scheme was conceived to ameliorate the challenges faced by the majority of the population in accessing public power supply. 

Obe said that the scheme encompassed effective service delivery and citizen's ownership. 

According to him, "the scheme is subsidised to enhance affordability by the generality of the people. 

''No doubt this programme will help to complement the efforts of the States government in the provision of electricity across the the state to boost the socio-economic activities of the people of Delta as well as help to improve the security situation of the state,''he said. 

The commissioner, who, commended the State Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa for approving the implementation scheme in the state, advised the people of Delta to key into the initiative. 

''I encourage all residents of Delta who are currently not served or underserved to key into this window of opportunity to enjoy steady, clean and affordable power supply. 

''I enjoin every one to give our partner Beebeejump Solar Limited  maximum support as they deploy their innovative and people-oriented  solar powered systems across the state,''he added.


On his part, the Country Manager of Beebeejump Solar, Mr John Esoimeme said that the organisation has installed 800,000 solar boxes across Nigeria. 

Esoimeme also said that aside the provision of solar light, the organization has also succeeded in training about 19,000 youths on solar installation across the country. 

''We have over 200 staff across the 36 states of the federation and we are presently partnering with eight states government in Nigeria. 

"Beebeejump solar introduced two different programme packages which would run for 12 months instalment payments. The N46,000 package and N220,000 package", he added.
