Edo State Government has commended the leadership of the State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for the establishment of Edo Food Mart in its secretariat describing it a plus to Obaseki's Mega agenda policy

Hon Afie Braimoh, the State Commissioner of Business, Trade, and Cooperatives made the commendation during the commissioning of the Union's Food Mart on Friday in Benin City.

Braimoh, who commissioned the food outlet, said it was in line with the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government "Made in Edo Product" policy.

The commissioner, who lauded the efforts of the state NUJ on the idea of the Food Mart, urged citizens of the state to cue into its laudable objective of helping to boost the local economy.

She stated that the burden of making the  Edo Great Again policy succeed rests squarely on the shoulders of everyone not only on the state government.

She, however, urged corporate organizations and groups to integrate the policy into their procurement policies.

While lauding the  efforts of the state NUJ on the idea of the Food Mart, she noted that it was geared towards realising the Making Edo Great Again (MEGA) Agenda of the state government in achieving economic prosperity for Edo people.

Braimoh noted that the policy has gained wider acceptance even across the state with "Made in Edo" products adorning the shelves of the major supermarts and food chains in the state.

She urged members of the union to help beam more light on the policy of "Made in Edo Products".

She promised to provide support to the Union in getting a better bargain in the sourcing of the food items from the farmers.

Braimoh, however, commended the  Alekhe-led union for placing the general well-being of its members above any other consideration within the short time he has been in office.

Earlier, Comrade Festus Alenkhe,  the state chairman of NUJ said the union conceived the idea of the food mart on realizing that its members were spending a huge chunk of their  income on foodstuffs arising from the spiraling cost of living in the country.

Alenkhe, who  described the food mart as a "welfarist" package to the members, added that the members of the union as well as those he described as "friends of the Union" will now be able to source their foodstuffs and other related items at a pocket-friendly cost.

"The  Edo NUJ Food Mart is part of the Union's efforts to cushion the effect of the spiraling cost of living on its members", he added.

The high point of the unveiling ceremony was the  formal commissioning of the project as well as dignitaries and members of the union making  first purchase.
