A pressure group under the aegis of Kogi Women in Politics has appealed to the National leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to prevail on the state chapter to zone its governorship ticket to  Kogi West senatorial district slated for November, 2023.

The feminist advocacy group, who joined other groups in the state to agitate for a power shift  to Kogi West Senatorial district, noted that the call is premised on principle of equity and fairness.

Mrs Titi Omotola, convener of the group, who  made the call at a news conference in Lokoja said women in Kogi West senatorial district support emergence of an APC governorship candidate of Okun extraction.

While noting that women movement for change is not negotiable, the group opined that the principle of equity and fairness is what binds the state as a United political entity in Nigerian Federation.

According to the group, since the creation of Kogi State, Kogi East has ruled for 16 years while at the expiration of the second term of ex-governor Yahaya Bello, Kogi Central would have ruled for eight years while Kogi West has not produced the Governorship position of the state.

"Kogi West Women in Politics  pleads with the national leadership of APC to give a favourable consideration to a Kogi West senatorial district  person to emerge as its Governorship candidate.

"As a just and fair political party by ensuring a seamless power shift to Kogi West which in honest view, is the right thing for the party, which stands for inclusive governance", she said.

Omotola, who  expressed aversion to "ethnic and political marginalization" of any part of the state, urged all people of the state  to eschew ethnic antagonism as political parties prepare for the governorship primary elections slated for  this April to elect their various flag bearer ahead of the  gubernatorial poll.

The group, however, commended the state Governor Yahaya Bello for giving fair representation to the women folk in the state as more women have been appointed into key political positions at state and local government levels.

"The women expressed confidence in the feminist disposition of Governor Bello's administration to greater women representation in governance", she added.

She urged the state governor  to support women's quest for peaceful power shift in the state as the governorship tussle hots up without legal firestorm.
