Edo Continuity Network (ECN), has picked hole on the proclamation letter issued by the  Edo State government for the inauguration of the 8th Edo Assembly.

The group in a statement signed by its director of publicity, Zibri Muhammed, expressed worry over the alleged omission of  the time of the inauguration in the  proclamation letter.

Dailymonitorngr reports that the group feared that the  omission of time in the proclamation letter signed by the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki was geared towards a repeat of the nocturnal inauguration of the 7th Assembly by the Governor.

"The attention of ECN has been drawn to a letter being circulated by Edo State Government agents as a purported Proclamation Letter for the Inauguration of the 8th Edo Assembly.

"While we understand that Governor Obaseki is mandated by law as explicitly done in Section 105, subsection 3 of the Nigerian 1999 constitution as amended, we must however state that we are greatly concerned by the deliberate act of Governor Godwin Obaseki to gullibly omit the time for the inauguration.

"We would not have bothered since there appeared to be a date and venue in the purported Proclamation Letter, but taking into serious considerations the events that surrounded the nocturnal inauguration of a negligible  number of Members -elect for the 7th Assembly of the Edo State House of Assembly, which has continued to plague the State and its governance, we must alert the general public and call for total vigilance.

"Also, we must state that we are not in doubt whether there is a sinister move to replay the highly condemnable and infamous nocturnal inauguration of the outgoing inglorious and highly unimpressive Assembly.

"But we wish to warn sternly without any iota of fear, that those behind the plans should have a rethink and allow due process and absolute legality to obtain in the forthcoming Assembly, beginning from its inauguration",he said.

The group, however, called on Governor Godwin Obaseki to recall the purported Proclamation Letter in circulation and insert the time as appropriate and necessary.

"In the alternative, Mr Governor should release a public Statement in both the Print and the electronic media in the state, stating the facts of the proclamation, including the date, time and venue of the Inauguration.

The group also called on  well-meaning citizens of the state to be  vigilant and  alert to forestall any attempt by governor  Obaseki and his cohorts to put Edo in another  public ridicule through unacceptable and illegal inauguration of the 8th Assembly in Edo State.
