Six old commissioners make Obaseki's list

Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has reappointed six of the former commissioners hitherto relieved of their jobs.

Dailymonitorngr reports that the governor had last month sacked all the civil commissioners, Special Advisers and all other political appointees in the state except the Chief of Staff and Secretary to the State Government.

The former commissioners reappointed are Ethan Osaze Uzamere, former commissioner of Oil and Gas,  Christopher Osaretin Nehikhare, Information and Communication, Monday Osaigbovo, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. 

Others are  Dr. Joan Osa-Oviawe, Commissioner for Education, Isoken Omo, for Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development and Stephen Ehikhioya Idehenre, for Agriculture and Food Security.

The new nominees who have been screened and confirmed by the State House of Assembly are 
Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, Patrick Uanseru, and Samuel Alli (Dr.).

Others are Adaze Aguele-Kalu, Kingsley Uwagbale, Uyi Oduwa Malaka, Joshua Omokhodion, Ojiefoh Enaholo Donatus and Christabel Omo Ekwu.

The Secretary to the State Government,Osarodion Ogie made the disclosure in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly. 

“I write at the instance of His Excellency, the Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, to forward herewith the under-listed names of Commissioner Nominees to the Edo State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation 

"I am to request that the above nominees be expeditiously screened and confirmed 

DailyMonitorngr also reports that the Edo State Assembly, at plenary, screened and confirmed the nominees after due deliberation on Thursday, June 8, 2023.

8 persons burnt to death in a tanker explosion in Edo community

By Editor March 10, 2025 Eight passengers have been burnt to death in a tanker explosion in the Agbede community in Etsako West Local Government Area of the State. DailyMonitorngr reports that the accident happened on Sunday in the community by channel 5, along the Auchi- Benin expressway. Cyril Mathew, the Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the accident to newsmen on Monday in Benin City. Mathew said the accident involved four vehicles with two of them carrying diesel and other petroleum products. Mathew said the information available to him, revealed that one of the tankers descending the Ewu hill on the Benin-Auchi road had a failed brake and in the process rammed into other vehicles which ignited fire. Edo Govt gives nod to deputy speaker to construct perimeter fence in two schools

By Editor May 19, 2024   The Edo State Government has given approval to the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Maria Omozele Oligbi-Edeko to construct  perimeter fence in Ebhoiyi Demonstration Primary  and Idumu-Egelean Primary Schools in Esan North East Local Government Area. Dailymonitorngr reports that the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) gave the nod to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, representing Esan North East constituency II  to construct perimeter fences in the two schools. The schools were  last Thursday handed over to the Deputy Speaker and  the engineer by the Education Secretary, Esan North East Local Government Area  in Uromi, the administrative headquarters of the local Government.  Earlier, SUBEB had given an approval to the Deputy Speaker to carry out the project in compliance with State Government directive.
