15-year-old highest JAMB scorer in Edo emerges one-day Assembly Speaker

Nothing succeeds like success. This age-long adage resonated recently in Edo State as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Blessing Agbebaku and his counterpart representing Akoko-Edo constituency II, Donald Okogbe awarded scholarship to Master Gold Ovoita Ajagun.

Gold Ovoita Ajagun from Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government emerged the best-performing student in the recent West Africa Examination Council(WAEC) and
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB).
Ajagun, a student of Gloryland Secondary School, scored 335 in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and obtained eight A1s in the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination.
The Speaker, who received the student in his office in company of the lawmaker representing Akoko-Edo constituency II, Donald Okogbe who was the highest JAMB scorer in the state was made the one-day Speaker of the State House of Assembly.
Hon Agbebaku, who expressed delight in the results of the student, offered him a one-year scholarship covering tuition fees.
The speaker said the scholarship takes effect immediately after offered admission into the University of Ibadan to study medicine and Surgery.
Agbebaku, who noted that the future of the state and nation is guaranteed with the academic excellence of youths, however, called on parents to give their children a good upbringing and education which is the bedrock of any nation.
Earlier, Hon Donald Okogbe who presented Master Gold Ovoita Ajagun to the Speaker disclosed that he was impressed by the young boy's results especially as he is from his constituency.
Okogbe, explained that his WAEC result was earlier withheld for further investigation before it was finally released.
He said, he had presented a laptop to him in order to help with his computer knowledge before he resumes his academic studies at the University of Ibadan.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker, also announced the payment of his second-year tuition fees to the student.
He, however, appealed to other well-meaning Edo indigenes to support his educational pursuit.
Also, a popular fashion designer, Gini Couture, has promised to support the youth prodigy by replenishing his wardrobe.
In his remarks, the 15- year-old Master Gold Ovoita Ajagun commended the Speaker and members of the House for the scholarship and the opportunity to serve as a one-day speaker of the house.
Ajagun, as a speaker of the house, however, called on the state Government to increase budgetary allocation to the education sector to enable children of school age to acquire basic and good education.
Present at the event were members of the house, political appointees, and former Deputy Speaker in the state's 7th Assembly, Hon Roland Asoro.
