An aspirant on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2024 governorship election in Edo State, Mr. Kingsley Uaifo Ulinfun has promised to make 10,000 youths millionaire in four years if elected the governor of the state.
DailyMonitorngr reports that the former managing director, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Tanzania made the promised while formally declaring his intention to contest the election.
Ulinfun, said, when nominated candidate of the party as well as winning the governorship election, his administration will empower 2,500 youths annually with a grant of N5 million each to boost their entrepreneurship.
He said with the initiative the 2500 youths are projected to create 50,000 jobs annually, an average of 20 jobs each and 200,000 for four years.
The former banker, who said 60 percent of women would be beneficiaries of the empowerment, added that the initiative will cost the state government about N12.5billion to implement annually.
"The ideology of Labour Party is essentially social democracy. In other parts of the world it is called a welfare state or a mixed economy.
"Social democracy essentially means socialism bonding with capitalism. This simply means providing development for the people.
"One is to empower the youths of the state. We will not only going to employ them but will definitely going to empower them so that they can employ themselves and others.
He also promised to initiate free medical insurance scheme for about five million Edo State population to reduce incidences of high morality rate.
He explained that free medical insurance scheme will enable the people of the state to have access to quality healthcare especially in the treatment of common diseases like malaria, dysentery, diarrhea among others.
The Labour Party governorship candidate hopeful opined that the free medical insurance scheme will will not be for state workers and pensioners alone but for all citizens residing in the state, irrespective of place of work,economic status and tribe.
Ulinfun, who lamented the failure of successive governments since 1999 to enact policies and programmes that are geared towards reducing the cost of healthcare, unemployment among the people, however, promised to provide good governance anchored on accountability and transparency.
He, however, urged members of the party to nominate candidate that has good record and integrity in financial and public service management.
