Edo 2014: Oshiomhole remains my godfather, Shaibu insists

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has insisted that a former Governor of the State, Adams Oshiomhole remains his father despite their political differences.

Dailymonitorngr reports that the deputy governor had a frosty relationship with Oshiomhole now a senator representing Edo North Senatorial District during the campaign for the reelection of Governor Godwin Obaseki in 2020 as well as the 2023 general elections.

DailyMonitorngr also reports that the deputy governor is currently having a frosty relationship with his principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki over his intention to succeed him as the governor of the state later in the state.

But, Shaibu, while speaking live on a private television broadcast station in Lagos, insisted that the former Governor Adams Oshiomhole remains his father despite their political differences.

The deputy governor, who expressed remorse over his choice of words against Oshiomhole, apologized to him for forgiveness.

He, however, opined that his ambition to succeed the outgoing  Governor Obaseki, was borne out of a divine conviction to serve the State and take governance back to the people.

"Yes, I want to be the next Governor of Edo State not because l am Philip Shaibu, but because it is my constitutional right. Before publicly declaring my interest to contest, l had consulted widely with many persons and groups within and outside Edo State.

"Moreover, l went into prayers to seek guidance and direction from God. The signs l received encouraged me to go ahead with my aspiration, though it was obvious the Governor had his own plans of supporting another person", Shaibu said.

The deputy governor, who is aspiring on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shared his thoughts on a wide range of issues, including his political ambition, conflict between him and his boss, Governor Obaseki, governance, security, among other concerns.

He stated that his ambition to succeed Obaseki was driven by a divine cause to take Edo State to the next level.
