Edo 2024: APC aspirant promises to engage traditional rulers, PCRC, others to tackle insecurity

Dr Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, a  frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised to engage traditional rulers, Police-Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Neighborhood Watch and Police Constabulary to tackle insecurity if elected the governor of the state.

Umakhihe also promised to overhaul and strengthening the  Police-Community Relations Committee (PCRC).

The APC governorship candidate hopeful, made the promise while presenting his Manifesto titled "A Fresh Start for a Shared Posterity".

He said PCRC, Neighborhood Watch, Constabulary as well as Traditional Institutions in various localities will be engaged and strengthened in the security architecture of the state in order to make for seamless intelligence gathering, prompt and decisive response.

He noted that PCRC  will be overhaul and strengthen as a panacea towards solving the insecurity bedeviling Edo State.

Dailymonitorngr reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had fixed  September 21, 2024 for gubernatorial election while the party slated its primary election on February 17, 2024 .

According to him, the PCRC has a crucial role to play in crime prevention and detection. It will  help to bridge the socio-psychological gap that exists between the Police and the public .

In the manifesto, the recently retired Federal Permanent Secretary (PS) who could not resist the pressure of well meaning Edo citizens to join the governorship race because of his impressive performance and competence as a Civil Servant, intends to accord security a priority  in the scheme of things.

While also promising to accord  the safety of human lives and properties as a priority of his government, he argued that provision of security is one of the  primary responsibilities of any government .
 
He posited  that much as security is on the Exclusive List, it does not rule out the prospect of building a robust and resilient synergy between the Federal, State, and Traditional Institutions.

He  also promised to  laid out Policy options for agriculture, education, food security, crime prosecution as well as the early resolution of boundary disputes which it identified as the major causes of insecurity across the States

The  governorship  aspirant  had  penultimate Saturday flagged off his governorship bid in Afuze, the administrative headquarters of Owan East Local Government Area.

The ceremony was  witnessed by top APC leaders in the state, including his supporters, well-wishers and associates.
