A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo South senatorial district, Hon Orobosa Omo-Ojo has condemned the endorsement of Barrister Asue Ighodalo as the party's candidate in the September 21,2024 governorship election by Owere Dickson Imasogie.

DailyMonitorgnr recalled that Imasogie had on Wednesday in a rally organized by Asue Ighodalo to formally declared his interest to contest the governorship position in Benin city  endorsed the latter as the candidate of the party on behalf of the senatorial district.

Reacting to the endorsement, Omo-Ojo, the two-time commissioner during the administration of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, in a  statement made available to newsmen in Benin City on Thursday said the endorsement of the PDP's governorship aspirant does not have the blessings of the senatorial district.

The former commissioner who accused, Imasogie, the former chairman of the party in the senatorial district of impersonation noted that he has no moral right to speak or endorse any aspirant on behalf of the senatorial district.

He said the only know chairman and leader of the party in the Edo South senatorial district is Hon Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor.

He, however, called on the former chairman of the party in senatorial district to desist from parading himself as the leader of the zone.

"It must be noted that what Owere Dickson Imasogie said at a recent flag off of a PDP aspirant, has nothing to do with the corporate interest of Benins of Edo South Senatorial District.

"Imasogie has a constitutional right to stand with any aspirant of his choice, but not an officer of the party to speak for senatorial district.

"He  has not spoken on behalf of Edo South leaders, but perhaps his household.

"For the information of Edo people, Owere Dickson Imasogie is not the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Edo South and as such, can only speak for himself and some of his followers, as he has done.

"The Edo South Senatorial Chairman remains Nosa Ogieva-Okunbor Esq who has the authority of leaders from the Seven local government areas in South to speak for our collective interest", he said.

While noting that PDP is one big family, however, condemned the endorsement.

Omo-Ojo, who urged the general public to be mindful of such statements noted that such is capable of polarising the party  which needs healing at this time.
