Ahead of the February 17, 2024 primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Edo State Governorship election, the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), has advanced reasons why the party's ticket should be given to Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Dailymonitorngr reports that the group said its choice of the Senator representing Edo Central senatorial district is hinged on his political sagacity and charismatic   leadership.

The Edo State chairman of the group, Dr Samson Isibor who said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday in Benin City, opined that the political qualities of the Senator popularly referred to as "Akpakomiza", place him above other aspirants jostling for the party's governorship ticket.

Isibor said the resolution of the group to support the governorship bid of the APC Senator was taken at its quarterly meeting.

He noted that Senator Okpebholo is the only aspirant that can defeat Barrister Asue Ighodalo, the anointed candidate of Governor Godwin Obaseki on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to him, members of CRPP in Edo State at its quarterly meeting highlighted the various qualities of the Senator who is an aspirant on the platform of APC in the forthcoming governorship election in this year, as an astute personality, very resourceful and easily accessible.

"A great philanthropist, whose  desire is always to empower the less privileged in the society. He built and renovated several schools and rehabilitated many roads", he said.

The CRPP chairman noted that because of his people-oriented and welfare projects, the group honoured him with an award in 2023.

While noting that Senator Okpebholo is a young and vibrant man, untainted and a forthright personality, Isibor appealed  that there should be no short cut by any group of people to circumvent the wishes of the people in the primary election.

He said, if nominated the party's flag bearer and subsequently win the September governorship election, the Senator will turn Edo State's economy around for the betterment of the people.

He contended that within his short period in the national assembly, Senator Okpebholo has contributed immensely to the satisfaction and admiration of his constituents both in the urban and rural areas.

Isibor, however, appealed to the leadership of APC in the state and all party faithful to nominate the senator as its consensus candidate for the governorship election.

"We are appealing to the APC leadership to consider giving free hand to the delegates to elect senator Monday Okpebholo to fly the governorship flag of the party, as he alone can confront and defeat the outgoing Governor Obaseki's godson who is unknown to Edo people,"he said.
