Dr Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe, one of the leading governorship aspirants on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for 2024 election in Edo State has vowed to revisit the abandoned Benin Storm Water project initiated by the Adams oshiomhole-led administration if elected governor of the state.

The APC governorship candidate hopeful at the  party's primary election slated for February 17, 2024, opined that the storm water project remains the best option in solving the perennial flooding problem in Benin City.

While noting that it was one of the legacy projects of the Adams Oshiomhole-led government, he added that it was disheartening that eight years after the project has not been completed.

"The project initiated by the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole's government to to  solve the aged long- Benin City flooding and other environmental challenges seemed to have been practically come to a halt under the Governor Godwin Obaseki's administration. Work on it has since stopped", he said.

DailyMonitorngr reported that the campaign train of the APC governorship hopeful, had visited Orhionmwon and Ikpoba Okha  Local Government Areas respectively to woos party leaders and delegates ahead of the primary election.

At Abudu and Idogbo, the administrative headquarters of Orhionmwon and Ikpoba Okha local government, Umakhihe urged party members to intensify their efforts to ensure the success of the APC in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

He posited that retrieving the governorship position lost to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2020 is uppermost in the mind of every right-thinking member of the party.

He called that all hands must be on deck to ensure the best candidate is nominated to win the state back to APC.

Umakhihe who was warmly welcomed in all the three local government areas visited by leaders of the party also spoke highly about him and his progressive ideas

The leader of the party in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Hon Patrick Aisowerien,  a former national assembly lawmaker, hailed the visit as a "good omen" and appealed to Umakhihe not to forget his promises to the people if elected.
