Edo LP Condemns Assassination Attempt on Julius Abure

The Edo State chapter of Labour Party (LP) has condemned the  assassination attempt on its national chairman, Barrister Julius Abure in Abuja.

Dailymonitorngr reports that fire engulfed Abure's residence in Abuja in the early hours on Wednesday, April 4, 2024.

Speaking on the incident, the state chairman of the party. Kelly Ogbaloi
alleged that the inferno was a deliberate attempt to assassinate the national chairman of the party and his family.

Ogbaloi, who spoke through  the State Publicity Secretary of the party,  Sam Uroupa, alleged that the act of violence and destruction was not only targeted on an individual but also at the heart of democracy and the fundamental rights of citizens to express their political beliefs without fear.

According to him, the party denounces in the strongest terms the heinous crime that have endangered the life and property of its National Chairman and family.

"Such cowardly acts have no place in a civilized society and must be met with swift and decisive action by the authorities to ensure that justice is served and the perpetrators are brought to account.

"The Edo Labour Party stands in solidarity with its National Chairman and family during this challenging time, offering prayers, support and assistance to help him recover from this traumatic experience. 

"The safety and security of all political leaders and members are paramount, and the party reiterates its commitment to upholding the rule of law and promoting a peaceful and inclusive political environment.

"The  individuals questioning the National Chairman's hard-earned reputation, which he has diligently upheld over the years, should refrain from engaging in such destructive and despicable behavior.

"In the face of adversity, the party remains resolute in its pursuit of justice, peace, and progress for the people of Edo State and Nigeria at large", he said.

Ogbaloi, however, called for a thorough investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding 
the cause of the fire and ensure the safety of the family members. 

He added that the cowardly act would not deter the party national chairman  from his mission to advocate for the rights and welfare of all citizens, and to work towards a society where differences are respected and dialogue prevails over violence.
