The leadership of Coalition for Registered Political Parties (CRPP) in Edo state has opined that the defeat of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21, 2024 governorship election in the State would be a good riddance to bad governance in the last eight years of Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government.
Dailymonitorngr reports that the group made the remarks while condemning the impeachment of Philip Shaibu as the deputy governor of the State on Monday by the Edo State House of Assembly.
The State chairman of CRPP, Dr Samson Isibor in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City described the impeachment as uncalled for, smacked political vendetta and a predetermined game from Governor Obaseki to see that Shaibu was removed at all cost.
Isibor, who also described the impeachment as rascality displayed by the lawmakers, added that Shaibu did not commit any impeachable offence.
According to him, our consolation is that the Edo governorship election is coming up in few months time, at which Edo people will laugh last to say it is good riddance to bad government.
He, commended Rt Hon Philip Shaibu for not appearing at the "kangaroo panel", noting that if he had appeared, he, would have gave credence to the illegally constituted panel against the court order.
He, however, advised the impeached deputy governor to forge ahead with the court process, assuring that he would definitely reclaim the mandate given to him by Edo people, which was illegally truncated by Obaseki.
The group which said, he was
strongly behind the deputy governor, also assured him (Shaibu) of their unchangeable support throughout the political challenges.
Dailymonitorngr recall that the CRPP which has been in the vanguard of political solutions to the faceoff between the deputy governor and his principal, Governor Obaseki, had told the governor that power is transient and not permanent.
It had also not only appealed to governor Obaseki to prevail on the leadership of the State House of Assembly to suspend its impeachment move, but also called on the house to heed the appeal of well-meaning Nigerians advising it to discontinue its desirous decision to impeach the deputy governor.
