The Edo State chapter of Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has berated Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government of the state for illegally claiming glory for the rehabilitation of Benin- Ekpoma road.
Dailymonitorngr reports that the coalition berated the governor in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City.
The statement signed by Dr Samson Isibor, chairman and Andrew Igwemor, secretary respectively opined that the rehabilitation of the road was influenced by Senator Monday Okpebholo, alias "Akpakomiza".
He alleged that there has never been anytime, the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki carried out any palliatives on the road to make it motorable for motorists and people of the state.
Isibor, who said the coalition took the decision to deliberate on the state of the road, noted that the development was to support the person that initiates and influences the ongoing rehabilitation of the road.
According to him, Edo State, at our quarterly meeting deliberated on the political development in Edo State as we are moving closer to September Governorship election 2024.
"In our deliberation, we resolved to put the record straight and through our support to the person that initiates and influences the ongoing rehabilitation of the Benin Ekpoma.
"The truth is not farfetched. We can confirmed that Senator Monday Okpebholo alias “Akpakomiza” influenced President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to please come to the aid of his Edo people who have been suffering the effects of some failed portions of the road for the past eight years.
"The Governor has never put any palliative to allow motorists manage the road especially the trucks coming from the Northern part of the country, that always had to spend days on a particular bad portion of the road.
"Glory to thank God Almighty who heard our prayers and agony that sent a compassionate, a philanthropic and sympathetic man who took the bull by the horn, cried to the president, who is a great listener, instructed the Minister of Works to come to the aid of the Senator Okpebolo.
"It is a laughing stock to see the state government wanting to take the glory for what they did not do for almost 8 good years that he has been ruling us not minding what Edo people have been passing through on the impassable road.
"Now that someone have taken it upon himself to help the masses, they are tumbling on each other claiming the glory",he said.
While commending the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo for coming to the rescue in the rehabilitation of the Benin Ekpoma road, he, however, assured the coalition's unflinching support and vote during the September Governorship election.
He added that the people of the state are now wiser, and need a listening and a considerate leader who feels the pulse of the people which Akpakomiza of APC stands for.
