The Edo State chapter of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties, CRPP, has urged  Governor Monday Okpebholo to put policies in place to checkmate the activities of market unions to reduce the high cost of foodstuffs in the State.

Dailymonitorngr  reports that Dr. Samson Isibor, the State chairman of CRPP gave the advised on Saturday in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City while setting agenda for Governor Monday Okpebholo-led government.

Isibor, whoever, congratulated the  Senator for winning the last September 21, 2024 governorship election and the successful swearing-in as the 5th democratically elected governor of the State encouraged him to go after market unions, to bring down the cost of commodities.

While urging the governor to distance himself from political "godfathers", he opined that, that alone would give him the freedom to work for the people of the state rather than serving the interest of the few.

He also urged him to focus and carry everyone along in his administration, regardless of political affiliations.

"The cost of living is also high in Edo State due to the activities of market unions, which dictate to traders the prices of foodstuffs. I encouraged Governor Okpebholo to go after them, to bring down the cost of commodities.

"Governor, Okpebholo is a father to all Edo people and not members of his political party alone.

"He should also address insecurity, as farmers now find it difficult to go to their farmlands.

"The inability of farmers to go to the farm, for fear of being attacked by herdsmen and other criminal elements has resulted in the high cost of food items.

"I  also called on the new governor to embark on people-oriented programs like road construction and rehabilitation, building and renovation of the school’s infrastructure as well as proper staffing with teachers to enhance learning.

“Our schools are dilapidated, we don’t want to see our children sitting on the floor learning, that should be a thing of the past,” he said.

Isibor, equally called on the newly sworn-in  Governor to address the issue of unemployment, particularly among the youths, to address the problem of youth restiveness, and communal and cult-related killings in the state.

He, however, appealed to Edo people and residents to pray and
cooperate with Governor Okpebholo to succeed in providing the much-needed dividends of democracy to the state.

He also urged the people to accord the governor all the necessary assistance to succeed in moving the state to greater heights.
