The Newly Appointed Chief Medical Director of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof Idia Ize-Iyamu has assured that together with the management, staff and students, she would keep the hospital at the forefront of medical excellence.

Ize-Iyamu, a globally trained specialist, a Commonwealth Fellow and a Craniofacial Orthodontist was on Friday, August 8, 2025, appointed the new Chief Medical Director of the teaching hospital by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In her appreciation message, Idia Ize-Iyamu also assured that her administration would together with the management, staff and students strengthen the standards and innovate in care delivery of the hospital.
She opined that the appointment is not hers alone but to all who have shaped her journey, championed her mission, and believed in the power of dedicated service.
According to her, today marks a moment of profound gratitude for me, a reminder that every achievement is borne of grace, guidance, and the unwavering support of many hands and hearts.
"This is why I am truly humbled by the trust bestowed upon me through my appointment as Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) by His Excellency, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
"First, my sincere gratitude goes to our dear President for finding me worthy of this service. I am equally thankful to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Honourable Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, for their leadership and confidence. My profound gratitude also goes to the Hon Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa.
"I recognise that this responsibility is weighty, and I commit to giving it my very best, in the service of our nation and the good people who depend on the excellence of UBTH.
"To the management, staff, and students of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, thank you for being part of this remarkable institution that I am privileged to lead. You have been my colleagues, collaborators, and, in many cases, my teachers.
"To my friends, professional colleagues, well-wishers and mentors from across the country and beyond, your calls, prayers, and words of encouragement over the years have been a wellspring of strength. This moment is a testament to the power of community and shared purpose", said.
She also appreciated the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo for his leadership, vision, and steadfast commitment to the growth of institutions by creating an environment where professionals like her can thrive.
While noting that she was proud to serve Edo state under the watch of the Governor, she assured that she would work to justify the confidence that leaders like him inspire their citizens.
The outgoing Dean of the School of Dentistry, University of Benin, paid a glowing tribute to her family, children, siblings, in-laws and husband, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu for their wonderful support.
She described her husband as her best friend, confidant, rock, compass and constant encourager.
"Through every late night, every challenge, every high and low, you have stood unshaken by my side. Your wisdom steadies me, your faith inspires me, and your unwavering belief in my calling strengthens me daily.
"This appointment may bear my name, but it carries your imprint in every step I have taken. You are the silent architect of many of my successes, and I thank God for blessing me with a partner whose love and loyalty are as deep as they are rare", she added.
Dailymonitorngr reports that the new Chief Medical Director is expected to resume office as the number one officer of the hospital on August 18, 2025 following the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing CMD, Prof Darlington Obaseki on August 17, 2025
